Workshop: Video Game Design

Duration: 1-day; 4-day versions

Description: Kodu Game Lab designed by Microsoft and Unity3D designed by Unity Technologies are programs created to get kids excited and enabled to create video games as well as exposing some of the fundamental concepts behind computer programming and popular video games.

For younger students, this workshop allows students create games using Kodu, a simple visual programming language that emphasizes creativity, problem solving, and storytelling. Working individually or in pairs students design games on the PC and (optionally) share them with the world on the Planet Kodu website. Some students will opt to advance and compete in Global Kodu Kup Game Challenges.

For older students kids, this workshop allows students to create games using Unity 3D, a powerful development platform for creating multiplatform 3D and 2D games and interactive experiences. Working individually or in pairs students design games on the PC and (optionally) share them with the world on the Made With Unity website. Some students will opt to advance and compete in the Unity Game Developer Challenge.

Objective: Students design & create a Video Game, pitch their game ideas and learn from guest speakers.
