iLaunch: Intro to Computer Science 5-Day Boot Camp CLOSED

MICHIGAN, Detroit, MI - August 18-22, 2014 @General Motors Training Center

The goal of this workshop is an introduction to digital technology & computer science, students participate in a 5-Day series of classes designed to introduce both the core concepts of computer science logic and digital technology entrepreneurship. Students in two sessions ( Grades 6-8th and Grades 9th-12th) will create a mobile (iPhone or Android) application on Days 1-3. Participants will then create a simple website to host and promote their creation on Days 4 & 5. The week culminates on Day 5 with a mini-pitch competition. Local and national digital technology and startup experts will visit the camp each morning providing both perspective and mentorship as students complete workshop goals.

Digerati Girls Fashion Tech Workshop UPCOMING

MICHIGAN, Detroit, MI - TBD October 2014 @Bizdom

The goal of this workshop is an introduction to fashion tech and wearable technology careers. Students will learn the basics behind creating fashion tech based logic and products as well as get to experiment with several current products in the space: Google Glass, FitBit,  etc. Local and national fashion technology and startup experts will visit the camp each morning providing both perspective and mentorship as students complete workshop goals.

 

Digerati Girls MedTech Workshop UPCOMING

MICHIGAN, Detroit, MI - TBD October 2014 

The goal of this workshop is an introduction to health & medical technology careers. Students will learn the basics behind creating medical technology based logic and code as well as get to experiment with several current medtech products & apps in the space. Technology and startup experts will visit the camp each morning providing both perspective and mentorship as students complete workshop goals.

 

Digerati Girls College App Workshop UPCOMING

MICHIGAN, Ann Arbor, MI - TBD December 2014 @ The University of Michigan Ann Arbor

The goal of this workshop is to allow college-minded high schoolers (9th-12th grade) to prep for their college applications by completing digital projects - namely a website-based personal portfolio & sample mobile app. Students will learn how to code and launch both products over this 2-Saturday event. Female technology and startup experts will visit the workshop each Saturday providing both perspective and mentorship as students complete workshop goals.

 

Digerati Girls Global Digital Workshop UPCOMING

Digerati Girls Hour of Code + Digital Scavenger Hunt CLOSED

MICHIGAN, Detroit, MI - December 14, 2013 @ Grand Circus Detroit

The goal of the workshop is to inspire and expose middle school and high school girls to pursue education and career paths in digital technologies. Students will complete an easy 1-hour coding lesson with no experience required! Our girls will learn how to create simple mobile apps and compete for prizes in a mini-digital scavenger hunt.

 

Digital Student Ventures™ (5-Day Summer Boot Camp) CLOSED

In a joint partnership with Student Ventures,  this introduction to digital technology, students participate in a 5-Day series of classes designed to introduce both the digital entrepreneurship and digital marketing skillsets and career paths. Detroit area high school students (Grades 9th-12th) will create a mobile (iPhone or Android) application on Days 1-3. Participants will then create a simple website to host and promote their creation on Days 4 & 5. The week culminates on Day 5 with a mini-pitch. Local and national digital technology and digital marketing experts will visit the camp each morning providing both perspective and mentorship as students complete workshop goals.

Girls will participate in an experiential workshop and scavenger hunt designed to introduce digital marketing - from client assignment to digital marketing solution. Geared towards middle school girls; students will visit and interact with a successful digital advertising company. Girls will use tablet computers to compete for clues on the path to creating their digital project for their "first day" on the job as digital marketers.

Kodu Game Lab is a program designed by Microsoft to get kids excited about making games, as well as exposing some of the fundamental concepts behind popular video games. Students create games using Kodu, (http://planetkodu.com), a simple visual programming language that emphasizes creativity, problem solving, and storytelling. Working individually or in pairs students design games on the PC or Xbox and (optionally) share them with the world on the Planet Kodu website.
