Kids Kodu Game Lab for Xbox

MICHIGAN, Southfield, MI (Metro Detroit) – December 1, 2012

Kodu Game Lab is a program designed by Microsoft to get kids excited about making games, as well as exposing some of the fundamental concepts behind popular video games. Students create games using Kodu, (http://planetkodu.com), a simple visual programming language that emphasizes creativity, problem solving, and storytelling. Working individually or in pairs students design games on the PC or Xbox and (optionally) share them with the world on the Planet Kodu website.

Behind the Curtain: Building a Digital Future

MICHIGAN, Birmingham, MI (Metro Detroit) – December 2012 TBD


Girls will participate in a experiential workshop and scavenger hunt designed to walk them through the entire digital process – from consumer problem to digital product solution to digital marketing partnership. Geared towards older girls and young women, girls will visit and interact with both a successful digital development firm and a successful digital agency/brand client. Girls will visit and interact live with digital professionals from a variety of perspectives on the path and participate in experiential exercises with each professional.

Students participate in a 5-week Saturday series of classes designed to introduce both the digital entrepreneurship and digital marketing skillsets and career paths. Young girls will create a video game using Microsoft’s visual programming language Kodu. Participants will then create a simple website to host and promote their creation. Local and national digital entrepreneurs and digital marketing experts will visit the class providing both perspective and mentorship as girls complete course goals as girls compete for tech prizes.
